Natural Areas Training Academy Graduate Profiles
Jeff Weber
Jeff has worked as an environmental resource management professional for nearly 25 years. He started his career in 1985 as a Florida State Park ranger, working at Gamble Plantation State Historic Site, Caladesi Island State Park and Wekiwa Springs State Park. In 1989, Jeff was promoted to a District Biologist at the Florida Park Service District 4 Office at Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey, FL. Then, in 1993, he accepted an Environmental Specialist position with Sarasota County Natural Resources Department and continues working in this capacity today with the County's outstanding environmental lands protection program.
In his current position, Jeff is a member of the Sarasota County "Eco-Burn" team, and as a land manager, is responsible for resource protection and management, public education and outreach programs and public recreation planning on six natural area preserves. Typical duties include prescribed burning and follow-up burn evaluations, exotic plant and animal identification, mapping and control, management plan development, habitat restoration, leading nature walks and planning for public amenities.
Jeff is an avid nature lover and spends his spare time camping, hiking, canoeing and photographing natural Florida and traveling to various state and national parks. He is proud to be playing an active role in the protection and preservation of our state's outstanding natural resources and rich biodiversity and is committed to educating and inspiring others to carry on this important work. He graduated from the Natural Areas Training Academy in 2007.
