Natural Areas Training Academy Graduate Profiles
Charlene R. Johnson
Charlene Johnson currently serves as the Education and Training Specialist for District 3 of the Florida Park Service. She oversees the training of the staff of 29 parks in the central area of Florida, with an emphasis on interpretation, safety, and ADA.
Charlene has been in the park service for seven years, with experience as Volunteer and Park Ranger at Silver River State Park and Park Services Specialist at Rainbow Springs State Park. Charlene is also a writer; she has published several books as well as magazine and newspaper articles, and has served as a magazine editor in the past.
Charlene’s Liberal Arts degree spans specialties in history, archaeology, and environmental sciences. She works in Apopka at the district offices of Wekiwa Springs State Park, but currently lives in southeastern Marion County on Lake Weir. In her spare time, she loves to sail, kayak, hike, bird watch, and ride her motorcycle. Charlene graduated from the Natural Areas Training Academy in 2004.
